Nice Knowing You IE6

Tags: ,

The  Juggernaut that is – Google announced on Friday that from March 1st some of their own websites including Google Apps and Google Docs will “not work correctly” on older browsers such as IE6 – woot.

With IE6 now being nearly 10 years old and being the biggest lump of monkey crap there has ever been, this isn’t much of a surprise; some websites have already dropped support for IE6 including Twitter and Youtube, but the fact that Google are jumping on board is, i’m sure to please both web designers and developers everywhere and maybe make some people who wouldn’t normally be, aware of the browser they’re using and why they should upgrade..

Microsoft are going to be supporting IE6 up until 2014 and I still do most of my websites to support the browser (apart from this one – damn png transparency) especially client work and as we know most corporate firms are still on XP/IE6 systems but this can’t last forever and I look forward to the day when the minimum people are on is IE7.

  1. I’m very glad that this is happening, IE6 used to cause me loads of issues when starting to learn HTML and CSS.

However, there are still a large number of businesses still yet to upgrade from IE6 and XP, so they could well be left in the lurch with this move.

  2. Why now!?

I ask because all the hacks, tips and tricks are avalable everuwhere, why didn\’t they do anything 5 years ago?

Why not do it more aggresively like turn off google search when displayd in IE6, all the companys are using that, they don\’t use Google Apps od Docs, developers do!
